CMXYConcert Audio: The process starts with highly accurate microphones placed in a prime location, hopefully away from audience noise, yet far back enough to capture both performers and the ambient sound of the hall. The microphones are powered by high quality mic pre-amps which amplify and convert the analog signal into a 24 bit digital audio stream. The digital audio is then recorded redundantly on multiple sources. For most solo recitals, two well positioned microphones (generally in ORTF) will provide quality results, yet for larger ensembles additional mics may be used. Often a decca tree array with additional spot and wireless mics are used for large productions. Once an event has been recorded the entire concert is edited and mixed, overall levels are adjusted, and track numbers are added. Finally, master CDs are created for review.

Concert Video: An audio mix is sent to a high quality 3ccd video camera via balanced XLR inputs. The video and audio signal is recorded to mini-dv tape and hard disk. For multi-camera shoots, the various cameras and audio are synced via timecode.
